STAUD Wide Wally Boots Review: A Stylish Choice for Tall Women

Finding boots that balance style, comfort, and practicality can feel like a never-ending quest—especially for tall women. Enter the STAUD Wide Wally Boots. Designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic and thoughtful details like extra room for the calves, these boots promise a versatile addition to your winter wardrobe. But do they live up to the hype? We dove into the fit, quality, and styling potential to find out.
Boot Description: Style Meets Function
The Wide Wally Boots by STAUD embody what we call “stylish and grounded.” Crafted from sleek black leather, they feature a square toe and a thin 2-inch heel, making them equally chic and comfortable. A hidden black zipper on the inside offers a seamless way to slip these boots on and off, a small but impactful design detail.
What truly sets these boots apart is their versatility. Their tall shaft height and lack of hardware ensure they pair effortlessly with everything from midi skirts to maxi dresses. Whether styled with handbags with gold or silver accents, these boots are a neutral anchor to any outfit.

Boots Scorecard: Breaking It Down
Criteria | Rating | Comments |
---|---|---|
Comfort | 4/5 | Comfortable from the first try, though fit issues with wider calves might require sizing adjustments. |
Design | 5/5 | Modern, sleek, and hardware-free—perfect for maximum versatility. |
Quality | 5/5 | Excellent craftsmanship. The boots showed no scratches or nicks during try-ons, a great sign for long-term durability. |
Value | 4/5 | At around $500, they’re an investment. But when compared to $250 “leather” boots made from synthetics, these are worth it. |
Fit | 3.5/5 | True to size for the foot (My usual 7.5 fit perfectly), but calves over 15.5 inches in circumference may face challenges even in the wide version. |
Overall Score: 4.3/5

Fit and Comparisons
Fit is one of the most crucial elements of any boot, and here’s what we found:
True to Size: The boots fit true to size for the foot length. As a size 7.5, they fit comfortably without pinching or tightness.
Heel Height: The heel comes in at 2 inches, which is absolutely perfect for just about everything, like walking long distances in the city.

Calf Circumference: With a listed circumference of 16 9⁄16″, the boots were a little bit narrower in person. See the image below. The circumference is actually closer to a 15.5. For calves like mine (15.5 inches), the circumference of the 37.5/7.5 US was JUSTT right and even a little tight. Sizing up to an 38/8 UK helped, but it caused a large gap in the ankle area, leading to a dented, crinkled look.

Height Comparison: Compared to another pair of boots we will be reviewing by Vince, the Wide Wally boots have a 3.5-inch taller shaft, making them an ideal choice for taller women (5’6″ and above).

Who Are These Boots For?
The Wide Wally Boots are a standout for tall women who love knee-high styles. Their wide fit makes them a natural pairing with skinny jeans, especially when styled with an oversized blazer to keep proportions balanced. However, if your calves measure over 15.5 inches in circumference, these might not be the perfect fit. If you have calves thinner than 13 inches, the regular Wally Boot should work for you!
Why we still love them: Versatility in Action
These boots aren’t just a pretty face—they’re functional for a range of occasions:
- Work: Pair them with a midi skirt and a knit sweater for a polished yet comfortable office look.
- Dinner: Style with a maxi dress or leather skirt for an effortlessly elegant evening ensemble.
- Walking Around the City: The sturdy 2-inch heel and durable leather make them perfect walking to and from dinner without needing to hop in a cab.
- Commuting: Their sleek design layers well over leggings or skinny pants for those on-the-go mornings.
- Date Night: Match them with a flowy dress and statement jewelry for a romantic look that feels chic yet grounded.
SG Perspective
At Stylishly Grounded, we believe in curating footwear that combines practicality with timeless style. The STAUD Wide Wally Boots hit many high notes—sleek design, versatility, and quality—but fell short in fit for wider calves and shorter ladies. We recommend them as a strong contender for taller women who prioritize aesthetics without compromising on comfort.
The Wide Shaft Wally Boot are an investment, but one that can pay off with the right fit. They’re perfect for taller women looking for a statement piece that transitions seamlessly across outfits and occasions.
